2022 Acura ILX Review
The base model of the 2022 Acura ILX isn’t much to write home about, as it’s still a mixed bag. While it comes with a powerful 2.4-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine that pumps out 201 horsepower, the cabin design isn’t up to date, and the infotainment system isn’t standard. Despite its high-tech specs, the ILX is still a mixed bag, especially regarding storage space.
ILX 2.4-liter naturally aspirated inline-four puts out 201 ponies:
The 2022 Acura ILX will be available for sale starting at $27,300. It will have four trim levels to choose from. Although it lacks some of the modern tech found in other luxury cars, it has some positives. The new model has comfortable front seats and looks great. It will compete against cars like the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe, the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, the Audi A3 sedan, and even the Genesis G70.
The new ILX will have a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter inline-four engine that puts out 201 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and sends power to the front wheels. The car weighs 3,095 pounds in base trim and has a 105.1-inch wheelbase.
The Acura ILX has decent interior space but lacks a centre console bin for holding cell phones. The front and rear door pockets are small, and the trunk has only 12.4 cubic feet of space. The trunk hinge design limits overall storage space.
Acura’s first generation ILX was released in 2013. The new model has a sportier look and has a low ground clearance. It is 182.2 inches long and features 17-inch silver alloy wheels. The taillights are LEDs. The car also has a single exhaust pipe.
ILX’s dashboard design looks outdated compared to the slick-looking screens:
The Acura ILX has been around since 2013, which means its dashboard design isn’t all that modern, and the interior will most likely get a redesign soon. This updated car version will be based on the all-new Honda Civic, which will debut in 2023. Unlike the previous model, this update will not be as luxurious as the A-spec package.
Acura also gave the ILX an updated exterior design. The exterior features a new diamond-pavement intake grille and headlights. There are also new colour options for the ILX, including a new Platinum White Pearl. In addition to this new colour, the ILX is now available in Canyon Bronze Metallic, Majestic Black Pearl, Performance Red Pearl, and Apex Blue Pearl.
The interior of the Acura ILX is spacious for the driver but cramped for rear passengers. Standard features include heated sports seats, dual-zone climate control, and a sunroof. The ILX is also available with a sports package that adds 18-inch Shark Gray wheels and LED foglights.
While the interior design of the Acura ILX has upscale materials and effective functionality, its dashboard design is dated compared to its German rivals. The ILX base trim has a modest five-inch main display screen, while the A-spec model adds two screens and smartphone integration. The newer models also have an updated dashboard layout. Even the Precision Concept’s dashboard looked NSX-inspired.
Acura ILX is more expensive than its competitors. Its starting price is $26,500, so it is not a cheap car for young people. The ILX competes with the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe, the Audi A3 sedan, and the Genesis G70.
ILX’s storage is a mixed bag:
The ILX’s cabin is comfortable and spacious, but its back seat can be a squeeze. Standard features include dual-zone automatic climate control, a sunroof, and heated sports seats. However, its dashboard is old-school, with no slick screens or useful storage. On the other hand, it does have a roomy trunk.
The 2022 Acura ILX’s infotainment system is a mixed bag, as it’s dated and lacks a clear, intuitive interface. In addition, the infotainment system is not as advanced as the competition. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support are included in the ILX’s infotainments, but the system lacks user-friendliness and visual clarity.
While the 2022 Acura ILX is priced lower than its competition, it is still a good choice for luxury car shoppers. It features a solid suite of standard driver aids; though the interior isn’t as luxurious as some luxury sedans, it is still better than most cars in this class. It comes with a four-year, fifty-thousand-mile limited warranty and a six-year powertrain warranty. Roadside assistance is included for four years. However, maintenance is not covered.
The 2022 Acura ILX has well-equipped base trim and three major upgrade packages. It uses a 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine and an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission to send power to the front wheels.
The 2022 Acura ILX’s interior is roomy and prioritizes comfort and convenience. Standard features include leatherette-trimmed seats and a dual-zone automatic climate control system. It seats up to five passengers, and the rear seatback can be folded flat to accommodate extra luggage. The 2022 Acura ILX also has generous cargo space, 12.4 cubic feet.
ILX’s infotainment system isn’t standard on the base model:
The infotainment system in the Acura ILX is outdated. It’s the same as Honda was offering five years ago, and the two-screen setup is annoying. The audio quality is fine for podcasts and audiobooks, but it lacks pop when playing music. And the ILX’s driver aids feel a generation behind the competition, too. Its adaptive cruise control, for instance, does not work below 20 mph.
The base model ILX has a 5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, but it’s mediocre. The other trim levels have an 8-inch infotainment system, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Bluetooth wireless technology. The infotainment system isn’t a big letdown, but it does have a decent limited warranty.
While the interior of the Acura ILX isn’t the most impressive in the luxury segment, the car isn’t bad. The base model still comes with a small screen, and the optional infotainment system is overly complicated, with a dual-screen setup. The base ILX is expected to last for one more year, with the new Integra joining the lineup.
The Acura ILX is a great choice for budget shoppers. A fully loaded ILX A-Spec with the Technology Package costs less than a base-model TLX. It also has an all-wheel drive and added performance.
The 2022 Acura ILX comes in four trim levels. The base model has a front-wheel-drive platform and a 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine that makes 201 horsepower. It also comes standard with 17-inch all-season performance tires. The interior is stylish and well-equipped, but it can’t compete with its German rivals.
ILX’s interior is roomy for the driver and front-seat passenger:
While the Acura ILX may not meet luxury car comfort standards, the interior is roomy for the front-seat passenger and driver. It offers decent bolstering and soft cushioning, but the seats don’t offer nearly as much adjustment as competing models. The ILX’s ride quality is also disappointing, with a ride that feels too firm most of the time. It also crashes over bumps and feels uncomfortably choppy.
The ILX’s interior is spacious for the driver and front-seat passenger, with good head and legroom. The ILX’s trunk holds a full 12.4 cubic feet of cargo. However, the ILX’s interior lacks phone storage, and door pockets are small and shallow.
The 2022 Acura ILX comes with a front-wheel-drive (FWD) drivetrain. It isn’t very efficient at cornering, and its tires squeal a bit. Still, the ILX has a top safety rating, and the NHTSA hasn’t reported any recalls yet. IIHS has given the 2022 ILX a good overall rating, although the headlights aren’t up to par.
The Acura ILX is a great luxury car for under $40,000 and a bargain compared to the competition. It’s also one of the cheapest luxury cars in the U.S., and the Premium package adds leather upholstery and upgraded infotainment. The ILX’s 2.4-litre engine is fuel-efficient and offers a comfortable ride.
The 2022 Acura ILX is available with several option packages. The Premium Package adds a 7-inch central display screen, HD Radio and Aha smartphone-linked navigation system. The Tech Plus Package includes an AcuraLink(r) infotainment system and AcuraWatch(TM) safety system.
Conclusion:
The Acura ILX is a compact luxury sedan with great technology and class. It offers spacious space and the perfect driving experience for daily use. However, it does not have many amazing features that other cars in its segment are equipped with, like advanced radar cruise control or night vision system plus more!
